A day in the life of a JobDriveNow delivery driver

From the early morning depot briefing to the last drop of the day, here is what a typical round looks like — and why our drivers love it.

A day in the life of a JobDriveNow delivery driver

What does a multi drop delivery driver actually do all day? We followed a typical round from the first coffee at the depot to the last parcel on the doorstep. Every round is a little different, but the rhythm of the day is much the same wherever you drive.

6:45am — Arriving at the depot

The day starts early. Drivers arrive at the depot, sign in and grab their handheld scanner. A short briefing covers anything unusual: road closures, heavy volumes, weather warnings or a new estate on the round.

7:00am — Vehicle checks

Before loading, every driver does a walk-around check of their van: tyres, lights, mirrors, fluids and any damage. It takes five minutes and it is the best way to avoid a breakdown halfway through the day.

Early starts mean quieter roads — and an early finish.

7:15am — Loading in route order

Parcels are scanned and loaded in the order they will be delivered. The first stops go nearest the doors, the last ones at the back. Experienced drivers swear this is the single most important part of the day: a well-loaded van can save an hour by the afternoon.

8:00am — On the road

With the van loaded, it is time to head out. The route app shows the planned sequence of stops. Most drivers start with business addresses and timed deliveries, then move on to residential streets.

Mid-morning — Finding a rhythm

By mid-morning drivers settle into a rhythm: park safely, pick the parcels for the next few addresses, deliver, scan, move on. Small habits make a big difference — parking so you can reach two or three doors on foot, or keeping the next few parcels on the passenger seat.

Lunchtime — A proper break

Taking a real break matters. Drivers stop somewhere safe, eat, drink plenty of water and check the rest of the route. On a busy day in peak season, that half an hour is what keeps you sharp for the afternoon.

Afternoon — The final stretch

The afternoon brings collections, returns and the last of the deliveries. Any parcel that could not be delivered is recorded with a reason — no safe place, business closed, wrong address — so the customer knows what happens next.

Mid to late afternoon — Back to base

Once the last drop is done, drivers head back to the depot, return undelivered items and collections, and hand back the scanner. Then the day is done. Many of our drivers say the early finish is one of the best parts of the job: there is still time for the school run, the gym or simply putting your feet up.

Why our drivers love it

  • Independence. Once you leave the depot, the round is yours.
  • Weekly pay. You know when your money is coming.
  • An active job. No sitting at a desk all day.
  • A supportive team. Someone is always on the end of the phone if something goes wrong.
